How to use dried flowers as Christmas decorations

How to use dried flowers in your Christmas decorations.

Using dried flowers as decor pieces is a charming way to bring a touch of nature to your home throughout the year. Dried flowers have made a resurgence in popularity in recent years, as they serve as the perfect alternative to fresh flowers. This is due to the fact that fresh blooms have a limited shelf life, meaning they will only remain fresh for up to a week, whereas dried flowers, when given the proper care and attention, can last for multiple years. This makes them a much more sustainable option.

One of the newer dried flower trends is their use in Christmas decor. Not only are dried blooms visually stunning, but they also add a unique twist to the more traditional festive decor, and can add a bright pop of colour to your home. Furthermore, dried flowers are versatile, meaning they can be used in a variety of ways. Whether you are looking to add floral elements to your table's centrepiece, or wish to decorate your tree with sprigs of eucalyptus, dried flowers are the perfect way to make the most out of your decor this holiday season.

To help you get inspired we have compiled a list of the best ways you can use your dried bouquets to add a little bit of festive joy to your home.

Christmas table centrepiece

One of the biggest benefits to dried flowers is that they bring in a vibrant pop of colour to any space that they reside in. Why not try using a vibrant floral table centrepiece to catch the eye of all your guests? Sometimes going against tradition is beneficial to add a unique vibe to your home.

One of our favourite ways to utilise dried blooms for a table is to have a ‘hanging’ centrepiece and make your Christmas table look like something out of a home interior magazine. Firstly you are going to need two big branches, over on our TikTok we used the example of eucalyptus branches. You will then need to wrap those branches with chicken wire to create a ‘nest’, which you will then need to fix onto your ceiling with hooks. Depending on how large your branches are will depend on what you will need to use to keep this piece securely attached to your ceiling. Once you have done this, you will want to start attaching smaller pieces of foliage or dried flowers around the outside of the branches until all of the wire is covered.

Christmas-themed bouquet

If you are looking for a simple dried flower bouquet to keep in your living room or hallway, there are many different flowers you can use to bring in the festive cheer. Red roses are perfect for any arrangement, as they represent love and warmth - which is exactly what you want to be celebrating this time of year. Adding different seasonal elements to your bouquets, such as twigs or acorns is also the perfect way to draw people’s attention to your festive-themed display. The same can be said for any seasonal foliage, such as eucalyptus or berries, which can help to aid the overall appearance of your dried blooms.

Christmas tree decorations

One way you can decorate your tree to make it look elegant and sophisticated is by adding sprigs of dried eucalyptus. We have showcased how you can do this over on our TikTok. All you will need to do is get a large bunch of fresh or dried eucalyptus stems (the fresh stems will dry on the tree making them perfect to keep for multiple years) and start feeding them into the base of your tree, working around all the way to the top. As you get closer to the top of the tree, you will want to trim the stems so that they fit perfectly into the tree. Once you have covered the entirety of the tree, you can then go in with your excess baubles and ribbons to bring the whole look together - the more the better.

In another TikTok, we show how you can use mini bouquets as the perfect Christmas tree decorations. Simply tie some string around the top of the vase making sure it is secure, and then loop it around a branch, and you have an elegantly decorated Christmas tree.

Christmas Wreath

During the festive season, you will often find doors decorated with circular floral arrangements of flowers, leaves, or even fruits. This arrangement is better known as a wreath and is used to signify the start of the holiday season, with its circular shape used to represent the continuity of life. They are most commonly used in Western cultures and are the perfect way to decorate a home for Christmas time. Using a dried flower wreath can be the perfect sustainable alternative to a normal wreath, and will help to add a unique visual touch to the outward appearance of your home.

Christmas Gift

You could also simply give a dried flower bouquet to your loved ones as a present. These bouquets come in a wide range of different sizes and styles, meaning you can easily get your hands on an arrangement that fits the personality of the giftee. Furthermore, if you are into arts and crafts, there are a variety of ways you can display these flowers. Framing your dried blooms is the perfect way to immortalise any flowers that hold sentimental value to your friends and family, such as a wedding bouquet, or a celebratory gift. So whether you are in serious need of a present idea, or simply know how much your loved ones would appreciate some carefully selected blooms, dried flower bouquets are the way to go this Christmas!
